About the Program
The UNICEF StartUp Lab is a six-month tech accelerator programme for impactful startups and businesses working to advance the Sustainable Development Goals for children and young people, across several sectors including education, health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and child protection. The programme is led by UNICEF in Ghana, supported by KOICA and implemented by MEST Africa. Since its inception in 2019, the UNICEF StartUp Lab in Ghana has engaged with nearly 80 tech-enabled social impact startups, collectively impacting over 200,000 children and adolescents.
Role Description
The UNICEF StartUp Lab is looking for hardworking and enthusiastic project supervisors to join the Programs team. If you’re an ambitious individual who wants to build a career in the startup ecosystem, program management, community building, then we want to work with you. Your work will include interacting and following up with startups in the program. In addition to being an excellent communicator, you should have excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities. The successful candidate should also have some experience working in business operations and understands the various stages of startup building.
Role Objective
Support and guide startups throughout the duration of our programs, contributing to the delivery of our programs.
Primary Responsibilities
● Scheduling and facilitating meetings between industry experts and startups
● Work with Venture Development Manager to review, summarize and analyze the needs assessment survey
● Present summary to the Program Management Team
● Support the startups and the experts to conclude on project plan and design
● Have bi-weekly meetings with startups to monitor progress of projects and steer the project team to a solution where a need or challenge is identified.
Job Description - Project Supervisor
● Report regularly to the VDP Manager and Program Team on the progress of their startups
● Facilitate invoicing and payments of prototype fund to startups
● Facilitate invoicing and payment of expert fees
● Schedule milestone debrief calls with the Program Management and Research and Impact teams
● Work weeks: Lead coordination on behalf of their startups interfacing with the startups and the Logistics coordinator and Community Manager
General Admin Responsibilities
● Project supervisors are the main point of contact between the MEST Programs team, experts and the startups
● Take part in daily spin up calls with the VDP Manager and Program team
● Take part in weekly planning meetings with the Program team
● Be present at all in-person meetings and events
● Submit weekly reports to the VDP Manager
Essential Skills and Qualifications
● A minimum of a Bachelor's degree
● Must be able to commute daily to MEST Offices in Osu for work
● Successful completion of introductory courses in administration, business, or equivalent
● Familiarity with Google suite apps (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs) and Slack
● Good written and oral communication skills
● Curious and ready to learn
● Creative problem-solving skills
● Team player
● Good judgment and problem-solving skills
● Meticulous and great attention to detail
