Deliver hands-on and classroom-based training for power shovel operators, covering safe operation, production techniques, and site procedures.
Provide field supervision, mentoring, and performance feedback to new and experienced shovel operators.
Conduct operator assessments and ride-alongs to verify skill levels, adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and best practices.
Ensure shovel operators understand proper loading techniques, truck spotting, swing patterns, and dig strategies to maximize productivity and minimize equipment wear.
Monitor operator performance, loading cycle times, and interaction with haul trucks; identify and address areas for improvement.
Collaborate with dispatch, maintenance, and mine operations teams to align training with production needs and fleet optimization.
Develop, revise, and maintain shovel training materials, SOPs, and training records using LMS or site documentation systems.
Lead and participate in safety meetings, field-level risk assessments, and incident investigations involving shovel operations.
Support ongoing skills development and retraining programs to maintain high operator competency and regulatory compliance.
Promote a safety-first culture through visible leadership and accountability.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience:
Technical diploma in mining with heavy equipment operation training + relative years of work experience.
Minimum 7 years of experience operating electric rope or hydraulic power shovels in a mining environment with 2+ years of experience in a training, foreman, or lead operator role.
Strong technical knowledge of power shovel operation.
Familiarity with dispatch/fleet management systems and production metrics.
Effective communication, leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
Proficiency in basic computer systems (e.g., MS Office, LMS, digital training tools).

Work Schedule – 14 days on 7 days Off
