As part of our team, you will

  • Monitor and coordinate sandblasting and industrial painting activities to ensure quality completion, efficient processes, priorities are met and foremost, safety.
  • Copordinate and manage compliance with safety rules  and procedures  during fabrication and welding activities.
  • Collate and report data on fabrication and welding activities.
  • Support in troubleshooting and resolving fabrication and welding issues.
  • Guide new employees on fabrication/welding and sandblasting/painting procedures.
  • Perform regular inspections of fabrication/welding and sandblasting/painting areas.
  • Assess relevant risks and hazards, implement controls  and continuously monitor for further risk exposures.
  • Encourage your team members to identify critical issues which will affect the work and listen when issues are raised.
  • Allocate work to your team members from the plan set by the manager.
  • Review how team members are performing with their work.
  • Recognize team members for work done well.

Prerequisites of your success in this role

You are qualified fabrication professional with strong foundation in mobile maintenance  activities and a strong uunderstanding of planning and technical processes. You demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, with in-dept knowledge of mine safety, health and sustainability standards, and proven experience of regulatory compliance in high-risk environment. You bring:

 

  • Proven experience to lead the team with hands on experience in mine mobile fleet maintenance operations. A minimum of 5 years site based experience maintaining heavy mobile mining equipment is a prerequisite.  
  • A tertiary qualification in an Engineering discipline or a relevant metal trade qualification and experience in a related field
  • A high degree or knowledge and familiarity with high deposition welding processes including, MMAW, MIG, Flux-Core, Innershield and carbon arc gouging and their applications on mine equipment buckets, jaws, doors, blades and implements.  
  • Competentence inability to interact, influence to develop solutions or resolve conflicts with various clients and stakeholders.
  • A hands-on leadership style that motivates, mentors, and delivers.
  • Ability to recognise repair priorities and assign both human & mechanical resources in accordance with repair priorities 
  • Proficiency in Tok Pisin is highly valued for effective engagement with the local workforce.
  • Must hold a PNG drivers license and have a Newmont  G1 Permit .

Your work environment

This role is offered on a 28:14 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from your Point of Hire in PNG to Lihir Island.
